Show Don't Tell: John 18:1-11
Instead of saying "Jesus was arrested in the garden," watch them fall backward. When he finishes praying, Jesus goes out with his disciples and crosses the Kidron Valley. On the other side there is a garden, and he and his disciples go into it. Judas, who betrays him, knows the place, because Jesus has often met there with his disciples. So Judas comes to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the Pharisees. They are carrying torches, lanterns and weapons. Jesus, knowing all that is going to happen to him, goes out and asks them: "Who is it you want?" "Jesus of Nazareth." "I am he." And Judas the traitor is standing there with them. When Jesus says, "I am he," they draw back and fall to the ground. The divine name knocks them down. Again he asks: "Who is it you want?" "Jesus of Nazareth." "I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go." Simon Peter, who has a sword, draws it and strikes the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear. The servant's name is Malchus. Jesus commands Peter: "Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?"
