Show Don't Tell: John 20:1-10
Instead of saying "The disciples found the tomb empty," run with Peter and John. Early on the first day of the week, while it is still dark, Mary Magdalene goes to the tomb and sees that the stone has been removed from the entrance. So she runs and finds Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loves: "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!" Peter and the other disciple start out for the tomb. Both are running, but the other disciple outpaces Peter and reaches the tomb first. He bends over and looks in at the strips of linen lying there but does not go in. Then Simon Peter comes along behind him and goes straight into the tomb. He sees the strips of linen lying there, as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus' head. The cloth is still lying in its place, separate from the linen. Finally the other disciple, who has reached the tomb first, also goes inside. He sees and believes. They still do not understand from Scripture that Jesus has to rise from the dead. Then the disciples go back to where they are staying.
