Show Don't Tell: John 3:31-36
Imagine a small, bustling café in the heart of a vibrant city, where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingles with the chatter of patrons sharing their lives. Among them sits a wise old man named Thomas, his weathered hands cradling a steaming mug. He’s seen much in his seventy years, and his eyes sparkle with the kind of understanding that only comes from deep experience.
One day, a young man named David, filled with ambition, approaches him. “Thomas,” he says, “I’ve been trying to make sense of life, but I feel lost. Everyone around me is chasing dreams, but they leave me feeling empty.”
Thomas takes a slow sip and leans back, his voice steady like a gentle river. “David, you see, we are all like the earth—bound by our experiences. We speak from our own limited understanding, grounded in our hopes and fears.” He pauses, letting the weight of his words settle. “But there’s a truth far beyond what we can grasp. There are voices from above, originating from a place of perfect love and wisdom.”
As he speaks, the sunlight breaks through the café’s window, illuminating David’s face. Thomas continues, “The one who comes from above, like the Son of God, speaks with divine authority. He offers us a perspective we can’t achieve on our own—a truth that can truly set us free.”
