Show Don't Tell: Luke 22:54-62
Instead of saying "Peter denied Jesus three times," hear the rooster and catch the glance. They seize Jesus and lead him away, taking him into the house of the high priest. Peter follows at a distance. When some kindle a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sit down together, Peter sits down with them. A servant girl sees him seated there in the firelight. She looks closely at him: "This man was with him." Peter denies it: "Woman, I don't know him." A little later someone else sees him: "You also are one of them." "Man, I am not!" About an hour later another asserts: "Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean." Peter replies: "Man, I don't know what you're talking about!" Just as he is speaking, the rooster crows. The Lord turns and looks straight at Peter. Then Peter remembers the word the Lord had spoken: "Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times." He goes outside and weeps bitterly. The look. The memory. The tears.
