Show Don't Tell: Luke 7:36-50
Instead of saying "A sinful woman anointed Jesus' feet," feel the tears fall. A Pharisee invites Jesus to dinner. He reclines at the table. A woman in that town who lives a sinful life learns that Jesus is eating there. She brings an alabaster jar of perfume and stands behind him at his feet weeping. She begins to wet his feet with her tears—so many tears they wash his feet. She wipes them with her hair, kisses them, and pours perfume on them. The Pharisee thinks: "If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner." Jesus tells a parable: two debtors, one owing five hundred denarii, one fifty. Both forgiven. "Which will love him more?" Simon: "The one who had the bigger debt forgiven." "You have judged correctly." Turning to the woman but speaking to Simon: "Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet." Then: "Her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little." To her: "Your sins are forgiven... Your faith has saved you; go in peace."
