Show Don't Tell: Luke 8:19-21

The sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, casting a warm golden hue across the dusty streets of Capernaum. The air was thick with the mingled scents of roasted fish and fresh bread, as people crowded around Jesus, eager to hear his words. Among them was a young boy named David, his wide eyes filled with wonder as he listened intently.

Suddenly, a commotion erupted at the edge of the crowd. A concerned voice called out, “Teacher! Your mother and brothers are outside, wanting to see you!” Conversations hushed, and all eyes turned expectantly toward Jesus. The crowd held its breath, waiting for a response that would surely honor his earthly family.

But instead of stepping out to greet them, Jesus paused, his gaze sweeping over those gathered around him. With a voice that rang clear and strong, he declared, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.”

In that moment, a sacred silence enveloped the crowd. People exchanged glances, their bewilderment transforming into understanding. Jesus was not dismissing his family; he was expanding the very definition of what it means to belong. The air crackled with the newness of this revelation.
