This is a show dont tell prompt on homiletics and preaching technique for adults.
As the sun dipped low on the horizon, casting a golden glow over the dusty paths of Galilee, Peter's voice pierced through the ordinary chatter of the day. He stood there, a rough-hewn fisherman, his hands calloused from years of toil on the water. In that moment, he embodied the tension many of us feel. “We have left everything to follow you!” he exclaimed, his eyes a mix of pride and uncertainty. It was a question wrapped in his declaration: What will we gain from this radical choice?
Jesus paused, looking deeply into Peter’s earnest gaze. “Truly I tell you,” He said, His voice ringing with authority and warmth, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age.” As He spoke, the crowd around Him grew still, captivated. “You will have homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields—along with persecutions.”
The warmth of community blossomed at those words, but the mention of "persecutions" brought a weightiness to the air, like the tension before a storm. Jesus was clear: the path of discipleship is not without its shadows, but in those shadows, we find a deeper kinship.
Picture the early church, where families gathered not by blood but by faith, sharing bread and stories around flickering oil lamps. Simon, once lonely in his fisherman’s hut, now had countless brothers in Christ, vibrant with laughter and love.
