Show Don't Tell: Mark 1:29-39

Instead of saying "Jesus healed many people," watch the doorway fill with the sick. Leaving the synagogue, they go to Simon and Andrew's house, with James and John. Simon's mother-in-law is in bed with a fever. They tell Jesus about her. He goes to her, takes her hand, helps her up. The fever leaves her immediately, and she begins to wait on them. That evening after sunset—when the Sabbath ends and people can carry the sick—the whole town gathers at the door. Picture it: every sick person, every demon-possessed, all crowding around one small house. Jesus heals many and drives out many demons. Very early, while still dark, Jesus gets up, leaves the house, and goes to a solitary place to pray. Simon and companions hunt for him: "Everyone is looking for you!" Jesus: "Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come." Crowds want a healer; Jesus came to preach.
