Show Don't Tell: Mark 13:24-27
Imagine standing on a hilltop, the air thick with anticipation, as the sun begins its descent behind the distant mountains. The vibrant oranges and purples that usually paint the sky give way to a peculiar, deepening darkness, as if a heavy blanket is being drawn over the world. In that eerie twilight, you can hear the rustle of leaves in the trees around you and the distant calls of birds hastening to roost, sensing something is amiss.
Then, without warning, the sun winks out, and the moon, usually a comforting beacon, becomes shrouded in shadow. Stars, once steadfast companions in the velvety expanse of night, seem to tremble and fall, swirling like confetti in a cosmic celebration turned chaotic. The very fabric of the universe feels as if it's unraveling, the heavens themselves groaning under the weight of an unimaginable event.
Yet, in the midst of this cosmic tumult, a figure emerges—brilliant and undeniable. The Son of Man, radiant and powerful, descends from the clouds with such glory that the darkness cannot help but flee. You feel a stirring in your heart as you sense the gathering of the broken and scattered, the lost and weary, from every corner of the earth.
He raises His hand, and angels of light sweep across the horizon, gathering the elect as if they were precious jewels, shining against the night. In that moment, the chaos transforms into a glorious reunion—a cosmic rescue where every tear shed, every heartache endured, is enveloped in love. The heavens are restored, and you realize that this is not just an end, but the beginning of an everlasting shalom (peace). The universe may tremble, but the promise of His presence is the hope that gathers us all.
