Show Don't Tell: Mark 4:26-29

In a small village nestled between rolling hills, there lived a humble farmer named Eli. Every spring, he would rise before dawn, the soft light of morning casting a golden hue over the dew-kissed fields. With calloused hands, he would scatter seeds across the dark, rich soil, a simple act filled with hope and promise. As he worked, each seed fell into the earth with a whispered prayer, believing in the unseen miracle that would follow.

Days turned into weeks, and Eli watched the land, his heart a mix of anticipation and uncertainty. He would often sit on the porch of his weathered farmhouse, sipping warm tea, gazing at the patches of earth where he had planted. Night after night, he fell asleep, oblivious to the magic unfolding beneath the surface. The seeds began to stir, drawing nourishment from the soil, the warm sun coaxing them up toward the sky. A curious child named Naomi, who often played nearby, would ask him, “How does it grow, Papa Eli?” He would simply smile, for he knew that the process was a divine mystery.

Then one day, he awoke to find green shoots breaking through the soil, reaching for the light. The stalks grew tall and strong, the heads heavy with golden grain. Eli's heart swelled with joy as he harvested the bounty, knowing that while he had sown the seeds, it was God who had brought the growth. In that moment, he understood—this was the essence of the kingdom of God: we plant, we nurture, but it is God who transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary, unseen work yielding a harvest beyond our understanding. The kingdom advances like this—mysterious and automatic, as surely as the dawn follows the night.
