Show Don't Tell: Mark 5:21-43

Instead of saying "Jesus healed a bleeding woman and raised a dead girl," watch the stories intertwine. Jairus, a synagogue leader, falls at Jesus' feet: his daughter is dying. Please come. Jesus goes; a large crowd follows, pressing against him. In that crowd, a woman who has suffered bleeding for twelve years—spent everything on doctors, grown worse. She thinks: "If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed." She touches his cloak. Immediately her bleeding stops; she feels in her body that she's freed. Jesus knows power has gone from him. "Who touched my clothes?" The disciples: everyone is pressing against you! But Jesus keeps looking. The woman falls at his feet, trembling, tells the whole truth. "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering." While Jesus is still speaking, men come from Jairus's house: "Your daughter is dead. Why bother the teacher anymore?" Jesus ignores them: "Don't be afraid; just believe." He takes Peter, James, and John to the house. Professional mourners are wailing. "Why all this commotion? The child is not dead but asleep." They laugh at him. He puts them all outside, takes the parents and disciples inside. He takes the twelve-year-old girl by the hand: "Talitha koum"—"Little girl, get up." Immediately she stands up and walks around. They're completely astonished. He tells them to give her something to eat—she's hungry after being dead.
