Show Don't Tell: Mark 6:7-13
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the dusty streets of Capernaum, Jesus gathered His twelve disciples near the edge of town. The air was thick with the smell of freshly baked bread from a nearby house, yet the mood was anything but comfortable. “Today,” He said, His voice steady but gentle, “I am sending you out.”
He paired them off, sending them into the unknown, two by two, like lambs being led into the wilderness. “Take nothing for the journey,” He instructed, “no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. Just a staff in your hand and sandals on your feet.”
Imagine the unease in their hearts. Peter clutched his staff tightly, wondering if he was truly ready for such a mission. To go without provisions, without a backup plan—how could they possibly succeed? Yet, in that moment of vulnerability, they felt an exhilarating rush of dependence on God.
As they entered the first village, the noise of the bustling marketplace surrounded them, the chatter of the townsfolk mixing with the distant sound of a flute. They spoke boldly of repentance, their voices rising above the din. And when they laid hands on the sick and anointed them with oil, they saw the impossible happen; people were healed right before their eyes!
