Show Don't Tell: Matthew 13:47-50
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden hue over the shimmering waters of Lake Galilee, two fishermen named Simon and Eli set out for one last catch of the day. Their nets, worn yet sturdy, danced in the gentle lapping waves, whispering promises of a bountiful harvest. Simon, with calloused hands and a weathered face, laughed heartily as he and Eli cast their net wide, letting it sink deep into the depths of the lake. "No selectivity tonight, Eli! Whatever comes up, we’ll take!"
They worked in harmony, their laughter mingling with the sounds of splashing water. After what felt like an eternity, Simon felt the net grow heavy, nearly pulling him overboard. With all their strength, they heaved it towards the boat, pulling it up to reveal a writhing mass of fish—some glistening silver, while others, dark and slimy, flopped in confusion.
Once ashore, the two men sat on the weathered planks of their boat, sorting through their catch. The good fish were placed gently in baskets, their scales catching the fading light, while the bad ones—those unfit to eat—were tossed aside, flopping helplessly on the shore.
“Just like this,” Simon said, wiping his brow as he gestured to the pile of fish. “At the end of days, the angels will come, separating the righteous from the wicked—those who have chosen the path of light from those who have wandered into darkness. It’s a sobering thought, Eli.”
