Show Don't Tell: Matthew 14:22-36
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows over the rolling waves, the disciples found themselves in a sturdy fishing boat, bracing against the tempest. The wind howled like a banshee, slapping against their faces, while the boat pitched and rolled, water splashing over the sides, soaking them to the bone. In the dim light, they could see the shore fading into darkness, and a deep sense of isolation settled in.
Meanwhile, Jesus had ascended a nearby mountainside, seeking solace in prayer. Alone with the stars, He poured out His heart to the Father, unfazed by the raging sea below. The disciples, weary and terrified, looked out into the storm; their hearts raced as they sensed something approaching.
Suddenly, just before dawn, a figure emerged through the sheets of rain, striding across the tumultuous water as if it were solid ground. Fear gripped them; they screamed in panic, "It’s a ghost!" But the voice that echoed over the waves was both calming and familiar. “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
Peter, ever the impetuous one, shouted back, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you on the water!” Jesus simply replied, “Come.”
