Show Don't Tell: Matthew 23:13-36
Instead of saying "Jesus pronounced seven woes on the Pharisees," hear the thunder roll. "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!" Woe one: you shut the door of the kingdom in people's faces. Woe two: you travel over land and sea to win a convert, then make them twice as much a child of hell as you. Woe three: blind guides who strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. Woe four: you clean the outside of the cup but inside it's full of greed and self-indulgence. Woe five: whitewashed tombs—beautiful outside, full of dead bones inside. Woe six: you build tombs for the prophets but are sons of those who murdered them. "Fill up, then, the measure of the sin of your ancestors!" Snakes. Brood of vipers. How will you escape being condemned to hell? The blood of all the righteous—from Abel to Zechariah—will be on this generation.
