Show Don't Tell: Matthew 26:69-75
Instead of saying "Peter denied Jesus three times," hear the cock crow. Peter is sitting in the courtyard. A servant girl approaches: "You also were with Jesus of Galilee." He denies it before them all: "I don't know what you're talking about." He goes out to the gateway. Another servant girl: "This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth." He denies it with an oath: "I don't know the man!" A little later, bystanders approach: "Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away." A Galilean accent in a Jerusalem courtyard. He begins to call down curses and swears: "I don't know the man!" Immediately a rooster crows. Peter remembers Jesus' words: "Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." He goes outside and weeps bitterly. Hours earlier: "Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you." Now: cursing that he never knew him.
