Show Don't Tell: Matthew 27:27-44
Instead of saying "Jesus was crucified between two thieves," feel each mockery. The soldiers gather the whole company around Jesus. They strip him, put a scarlet robe on him, twist together a crown of thorns and set it on his head, put a staff in his right hand. They kneel: "Hail, king of the Jews!" They spit on him, take the staff, strike him on the head again and again. Then they lead him out to crucify him. Simon of Cyrene is forced to carry the cross. Golgotha—the Place of the Skull. They offer wine mixed with gall; he tastes it but won't drink. They crucify him. They divide his clothes by casting lots. Above his head: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS. Two rebels crucified with him, one on each side. Passersby hurl insults: "You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!" Chief priests, teachers, elders mock: "He saved others, but he can't save himself!" Even the rebels insult him.
