Show Don't Tell: Matthew 27:57-66
Vivid sensory description for preaching Matthew 27:57-66
This is a show dont tell prompt on homiletics and preaching technique for adults.
Instead of saying "Jesus was buried in Joseph's tomb," watch the stone roll. Evening comes. A rich man from Arimathea—Joseph, who had become a disciple of Jesus—goes boldly to Pilate and asks for Jesus' body. Pilate orders it given. Joseph takes the body, wraps it in a clean linen cloth, places it in his own new tomb cut out of rock. He rolls a big stone in front of the entrance and goes away. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary sit there opposite the tomb, watching. The next day, the chief priests and Pharisees go to Pilate: "Sir, that deceiver said while he was still alive, 'After three days I will rise again.' Give orders for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead." Pilate: "Take a guard. Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how." They seal the stone and post the guard. Human security against divine resurrection.
