Show Don't Tell: Matthew 6:25-34
As I stood in the park last week, I couldn’t help but watch a group of sparrows flitting between the branches of an oak tree. Their feathers were ruffled by the gentle breeze, and their chirps mixed with the rustling leaves, creating a symphony of life that was both beautiful and simple. These little birds didn’t worry about tomorrow; they didn’t toil or stress over where their next meal would come from. With a joyful abandon, they flitted down to the ground, pecking at crumbs left behind by children enjoying their lunch. I felt a deep sense of peace in that moment, realizing that if God so tenderly cares for these small creatures, how much more does He care for each of us?
Nearby, wildflowers bloomed in a riot of colors—pinks, yellows, and purples dancing in the soft sunlight. Each petal, soft and delicate, seemed to whisper, “You are enough.” Even King Solomon, with all his wealth and splendor, wasn’t adorned as beautifully as these simple flowers, which neither toil nor spin. I took a deep breath, letting the anxiety that often clings to my heart begin to dissipate.
Jesus’ words echoed in my mind, “O you of little faith.” I remembered the times I had chased after material things, worrying about my job, my bills, and what to wear. The world around me seems frantic, consumed by those very concerns. But here, in this moment, I felt God's promise wash over me: “Your heavenly Father knows what you need.” I realized that when I seek His kingdom first, everything else falls into place. Tomorrow’s worries can wait; today is a gift, filled with the simple beauty of creation and the assurance of His love.
