As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden hue over the Galilean hills, Jesus gathered the crowd near the shores of the Sea of Galilee. The laughter of children faded, replaced by an expectant hush. You can almost feel the tension in the air as He begins to speak of builders. Picture two men, one named Eli, sturdy and steadfast, and the other, Jonah, carefree and whimsical.
Eli, with calloused hands and a determined gaze, chooses a rock-strewn hillside to lay the foundation for his home. He digs deep into the earth, the clinking of his tools echoing against the stone, sweat glistening on his brow. The sun beats down on him, but he works diligently, knowing that this foundation must withstand the tempests to come.
Jonah, on the other hand, laughs as he tosses his tools aside and wades into the soft, golden sands of the shore. "Why bother with rocks?" he scoffs. “This place feels just right!” He builds quickly, the sound of the waves lapping at the shore providing a false sense of security.
Then the skies darken. The wind howls like a pack of wolves, and rain begins to fall, first gently, then with fury. Eli’s house stands firm against the onslaught, the solid rock grounding it like a mighty fortress. But as the storm rages, Jonah watches in horror as the waves rise, the sand beneath his house shifts and gives way. With a heart-stopping crash, his home crumbles, a monument to his folly.
