Show Don't Tell: Matthew 9:27-31
The dusty streets of Capernaum were alive with the sounds of everyday life—children laughing, vendors calling out their wares, and the distant murmur of the Sea of Galilee. Yet, in the midst of this vibrant scene, two men stumbled forward, their hands outstretched in a desperate search for mercy. They were known as Jonah and Eli, two blind men who had lived in darkness for years, their world reduced to muted voices and familiar scents.
As they heard the familiar footsteps of Jesus approaching, an ember of hope ignited in their hearts. “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” they cried, their voices echoing through the alleys, piercing the noise of the bustling town. The title “Son of David” rolled off their tongues like a precious secret; despite their blindness, they recognized Him as the promised Messiah, the one who could bring light into their dark existence.
Suddenly, Jesus paused. He turned toward them, his presence radiant even in the dimness they’d known. “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” he asked, his voice warm and inviting. With unwavering faith, Jonah and Eli replied, “Yes, Lord.”
In that sacred moment, Jesus reached out and touched their eyes—his fingers gentle yet powerful. “According to your faith, let it be done to you.” As His hands withdrew, a burst of light flooded their vision. For the first time, they saw not just the shapes of the world but the vibrant colors—a tapestry of life that had been hidden from them. Faces filled with joy, the azure sky, and the rich greens of the fields.
