Show Don't Tell: Psalm 93
As you stand at the edge of the roaring Pacific, the ocean unleashes its fury. Waves surge like wild stallions, crashing against the rocks with the kind of power that seems to echo the very heartbeat of creation. Each wave rises high, a foamy giant ready to declare its dominance, yet just as it reaches its zenith, it shatters upon the shore in a cacophony of sound—an elemental orchestra of chaos and might.
In the midst of this tumult, I hear the words of Psalm 93 ringing in my ears. "The LORD reigns; he is robed in majesty." Picture it: God, like a king preparing for battle, standing tall and unyielding, robed not just in regal splendor but in strength that never falters. The tumult of the ocean is no match for His eternal throne—a throne established before time itself. “Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity.”
Three times, the psalmist calls out about the seas lifting up their voice. It’s as if the waters themselves are crying out, pleading for attention, echoing the chaos we sometimes feel in our own lives. “Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea—the LORD on high is mighty.”
As I watch the waves crash, I am reminded that no matter how chaotic life becomes—be it family struggles, health crises, or personal failures—God stands sovereign over it all. His statutes, firm and unchanging, ground us in holiness, bringing order to our chaos. In that moment, I feel not just the power of the ocean but the assurance that our God reigns supreme, both in the cosmos and in the sanctuary of our hearts.
