Signal Restored

In November 2023, NASA's Voyager 1 — the farthest human-made object from Earth — stopped making sense. After forty-six years of faithful service, a single faulty chip in its flight data system caused the spacecraft to transmit nothing but garbled nonsense. Voyager 1 was fifteen billion miles from home, hurtling through interstellar space, and utterly beyond physical reach.

But the engineers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory refused to give up. They wrote new code, transmitted it across the solar system — a signal that took twenty-two and a half hours just to arrive — and then waited. Patiently, painstakingly, they rewrote the probe's corrupted instructions from billions of miles away. By April 2024, Voyager 1 was restored. Its voice came back clear. It resumed the mission it was built for.

That is a portrait of redemption.

We drift. We malfunction. Sin corrupts something deep in our operating code, and what comes out of us is garbled — not what our Creator designed us to transmit. We cannot fix ourselves. We are too far gone, too broken in places we cannot even reach.

But God is not limited by distance. He sent His Son across a far greater expanse than interstellar space — from eternity into time, from heaven into a manger — to rewrite what was corrupted in us. "If anyone is in Christ," Paul writes, "the new creation has come" (2 Corinthians 5:17).

You are not beyond the reach of the God who speaks across every distance.
