Stepping Into Nothing

In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, there is a moment that has stayed with audiences for decades. Indiana Jones stands at the edge of a bottomless chasm. His father is dying. The only way forward is written in an ancient journal: "Only in the leap from the lion's head will he prove his worth." There is no visible bridge. There is no safety net. The abyss yawns beneath him. Every instinct screams to turn back.

But Indy closes his eyes, lifts his foot, and steps into empty air.

And his boot lands on solid stone — a bridge so perfectly camouflaged against the canyon walls that it was invisible until he stood on it.

That scene captures something profound about biblical faith. The writer of Hebrews tells us that faith is "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Faith is not a feeling. It is not a hunch. It is stepping forward when you cannot see what will hold you up, because you trust the One who told you to walk.

The bridge was there before Indy ever stepped. God's provision is there before we ever move. But we will never experience it by standing on the edge, calculating the odds. We experience it by stepping.

Where is the Almighty asking you to put your foot down on something you cannot yet see? The bridge is already there. He is waiting for you to walk.
