The AI & Human Dignity Perspective - Application
In the midst of our rapidly evolving world, where the rise of artificial intelligence raises pressing questions about human dignity, we can find profound guidance in the ancient words of Psalm 23. This beloved psalm opens with a declaration of trust: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." Here, we encounter a God who values each person, leading us not merely as a mass of data points, but as beloved individuals crafted in His image.
Imagine a shepherd navigating rocky terrain, attentive to each sheep’s needs—nurturing, guiding, and protecting. In our context, as we face the complexities of AI, we are called to embody this shepherd-like care in our interactions with technology and one another. The psalmist paints a picture of divine provision, where green pastures and still waters symbolize rest and restoration. Yet, in an age where technology often threatens to diminish our humanity, we must ask ourselves: Are we offering the same comfort, dignity, and compassion to those around us?
Each interaction with technology can be an opportunity to reflect God’s hesed (loving-kindness) and uphold the dignity of every individual. This means being intentional about how we use AI—not as a tool that isolates or dehumanizes, but as a means to uplift and empower. Are we using these advancements to foster genuine connection, or do we allow them to overshadow our human relationships?
Let us remember that living out our faith with integrity requires us to advocate for dignity in every sphere—both in our homes and in our communities. As we step forward into this brave new world, may we do so as shepherds ourselves, ensuring that no one is left behind, and each person feels valued and seen in the light of Christ's unwavering love.
