The Blue Dot in the Tunnel

If you have ever driven through a long tunnel while using Google Maps, you have noticed something remarkable. The moment you enter, your phone loses contact with every GPS satellite orbiting overhead. The signal vanishes completely. And yet the little blue dot keeps moving. It does not freeze. It does not panic. It continues tracking your position through the darkness.

Your phone does this through a process engineers call dead reckoning. Tiny accelerometers and gyroscopes inside the device measure every turn, every acceleration, every shift in direction. Based on the last confirmed position and your current movement, the phone calculates where you must be, even though it can no longer see the satellites that normally guide it.

Faith works the same way.

There are seasons when the signal feels strong, when God's presence is unmistakable, when prayers are answered in ways that take your breath away. But then come the tunnels. Grief. Uncertainty. Silence that stretches longer than you expected. In those moments, faith is the spiritual dead reckoning that says, "I know the last place I heard from God. I know the direction He set me on. I will keep moving."

Hebrews 11:1 tells us faith is "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." The satellites have not disappeared. The signal will return. Your job in the tunnel is simply to keep driving.
