The Blueprint You Were Born to Express

Every cell in your body carries the same complete set of DNA — all three billion base pairs of it. Your skin cells contain the instructions to build bone. Your liver cells hold the code for neurons. The entire blueprint for everything you could become sits inside every single cell. Yet a heart muscle cell never tries to become a kidney cell. It beats. That is its purpose, and it pursues that purpose with everything it has.

Scientists call this process cell differentiation. During development, each cell activates only the specific genes it needs and silences the rest. Not because the other instructions are flawed — they are perfect. But because that cell was called to one thing. François Jacob and Jacques Monod won the Nobel Prize in 1965 for helping us understand this mechanism of gene regulation, showing that what a cell becomes is not about what it lacks but about what it chooses to express.

There is something holy in that. The Almighty has written enormous potential into every one of us — gifts, abilities, longings we may never fully catalog. But purpose is not about expressing everything. Purpose is about listening closely enough to know which part of what God placed inside you is meant for this moment, this community, this season of faithfulness.

You do not need to be everything. You need to be the one thing He is calling you to be — and give it your whole heart.
