The Burning Bush: Reverence Guards Against Presumption
A congregation resembles any human corporation in its laws and purposes, yet it is fundamentally unlike other gatherings. As the burning bush appeared ordinary yet blazed with divine presence, so the Church contains the extraordinary glory of Elohim. The Lord promised: "In all places where I record My name, there will I come, and I will bless them." Christ Himself appears as a burning bush—in Bethlehem as an infant, in Nazareth as a boy, at Calvary as the crucified—always bearing the uncreated Godhead within human flesh. "Turn aside and see this great sight: why the bush is not burnt."
Moses received this revelation through reverence. Yahweh commanded: "Draw not nigh hither; put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground." Moses desired to comprehend the mystery entirely, yet God set wise boundaries upon human inquiry—not cramping restrictions, but safe ones. Many who examined the human frame to discover the spirit's nature returned claiming, "We have found no breath of God." Their presumptuous research blinded them. Similarly, those who scrutinize Scripture with fearless candor but without reverent submission depart emptied of truth. Reverence guards against the spiritual blindness that masquerades as enlightenment. We worship Him—God in human flesh—not by exhausting inquiry but by bowed submission.
