The Call You Didn't Have to Make
When Apple released the iPhone 14, it introduced a feature called Crash Detection. Using accelerometers, gyroscopes, and barometric sensors, the phone can recognize the precise signature of a severe car accident. And here is what matters most: when it detects a crash, it does not wait for you to ask for help. It calls emergency services automatically. Even if you are unconscious. Even if you cannot speak. Even if you do not know how badly you are hurt.
There is something profoundly spiritual in that design. The Psalmist wrote, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). God does not wait for us to compose the perfect prayer. He does not require us to fully understand the extent of our wounds before He responds. In our worst moments of impact — when grief has knocked the breath from our lungs, when betrayal has left us unable to form words, when depression has made us forget that help even exists — God has already detected the crash. Help is already on the way.
Some of you are sitting here today feeling too broken to even ask for healing. You do not have the words. You do not have the energy. Here is your good news: the God who knit you together knows the precise signature of your suffering. You do not have to make the call. He already has.
