The Cathedral God Is Still Building

In 1882, Antoni Gaudí began work on the Basilica de la Sagrada Família in Barcelona, Spain. He knew from the start that he would never see it finished. When critics questioned the glacial pace of construction, Gaudí reportedly replied, "My client is not in a hurry" — meaning God.

Gaudí devoted forty-three years of his life to the project, the final twelve exclusively. He died in 1926 after being struck by a streetcar, and the basilica remained unfinished. A century later, construction continues still. Every soaring spire, every carved stone facade, every stained glass window filtering Barcelona's sunlight into rivers of sapphire and gold — all of it testifies to a vision that refused to be rushed. Generations of architects and stonemasons have carried forward what one patient man began.

Scripture tells us that "the testing of your faith produces patience" (James 1:3). We live in a culture that demands everything instantly — instant results, instant answers, instant transformation. But God often works like Gaudí: slowly, deliberately, with a finished vision we cannot yet see.

The masterpiece God is shaping in your life will not be completed today. But every small act of faithfulness, every quiet season of waiting, is another stone set carefully in place. Take heart. Your Client is not in a hurry either.
