The Chosen: Healing Through the Servant's Stripes - Pentecostal (Isaiah 53)
In a recent episode of The Chosen, we see an unforgettable scene unfold by the shores of the Sea of Galilee. The sun casts a golden hue over the water as Jesus approaches a man, paralyzed and desperate. His friends, filled with an unwavering faith, have carried him on a mat, fighting through the jeers and skepticism of the crowd to reach their Savior. With bated breath, they lay him before Jesus, hope mingling with the salty air.
“Your sins are forgiven,” Jesus proclaims, and the crowd gasps, but for that paralyzed man, those words are only the beginning. He feels the warmth of grace wash over him, but he longs for the physical healing that seems just out of reach. Jesus, sensing the longing in his heart, turns to him and says, “Get up, take your mat, and go home.” In that moment, the man rises, strength flooding through limbs that had known only stillness. He walks home, mat in hand, the cheers of the crowd echoing behind him, but it’s his own heart racing that truly sings.
This dramatic healing, as Matthew 8:17 reminds us, fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah 53:5—“By his stripes we are healed.” It’s a beautiful reflection of the duality of our salvation: not only are we freed from the weight of sin, but we are also invited to experience the fullness of life—physical, emotional, and spiritual. When we pray for those who are sick, we step into the legacy of that healing power, claiming what has been purchased for us on the cross.
Every stripe that Jesus bore is a testimony to the wholeness we find in Him. So let us not shy away from bringing our wounds before the Lord. Every cry for help, every prayer for healing, echoes the truth that our Savior, the Suffering Servant, stands ready to deliver us, body and soul. In Him, we find not just forgiveness, but a promise that healing flows from the same source—a source that can transform our very lives.
