The Christ Who Mends What Breaks

In 2015, Swedish scientist Tomas Lindahl shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for a discovery that had puzzled him for decades. He found that our DNA is astonishingly fragile. Every single day, each cell in your body sustains tens of thousands of molecular injuries — damage from sunlight, from oxygen, from the simple act of living. By all rights, we should fall apart.

But we do not. Because God designed an army of repair enzymes that work without ceasing, scanning the double helix, snipping out the damaged sections, and stitching the code back together. Lindahl discovered that this restoration is not occasional maintenance. It is constant, relentless, faithful work — happening right now in every one of your thirty-seven trillion cells.

What a picture of the perseverance the Almighty calls us to. The Christian life is not a life without damage. Every day brings its injuries — grief, failure, temptation, doubt. But the Spirit of the Living God is at work in us with the same tireless faithfulness, mending what breaks, restoring what frays, refusing to let the story end at the point of injury.

Paul understood this when he wrote, "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair" (2 Corinthians 4:8). The damage is real. But the repair is relentless.

You are not falling apart. You are being held together by a God who never stops His healing work.
