The Cup She Raised

When Maria Santos stood up at her church in San Antonio last fall, her hands were shaking. Six months earlier, doctors had found a tumor wrapped around her spine. The prognosis was grim. Her family gathered. Her pastor came. Maria told everyone the same thing: "Whatever happens, He has been good to me."

Then came the surgery, the grueling recovery, the slow miracle of feeling returning to her legs. When Maria finally walked back into that sanctuary — no wheelchair, no walker — the congregation wept. But Maria did not come empty-handed. She carried a simple ceramic cup filled with grape juice, and she asked to speak.

"I didn't know how to repay the Lord," she said, her voice steady now. "Then I realized — He doesn't ask me to repay Him. He asks me to receive. To lift the cup. To say yes to what He offers."

She raised that cup in front of three hundred witnesses and drank.
