The Divine Powerwash

Every Chromebook has a feature Google calls "Powerwash." It doesn't just delete your files or clear your browsing history. It wipes the entire machine — every saved password, every cached error, every trace of what came before — and restores it to factory condition. When it reboots, you see a fresh welcome screen, as if the device had never been used. No forensic tool can recover what was erased. The slate isn't just cleaned. It's made new.

This is what the prophet Micah was reaching for when he wrote that God "will hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea" (Micah 7:19). Not tucked into a recycle bin where we can double-click and retrieve them. Not moved to an archive folder labeled "Forgiven But Not Forgotten." Hurled into the deep — permanently, irretrievably gone.

Too often, we forgive the way most people delete files — we drag the offense into a mental recycle bin, where it sits waiting to be restored the next time an argument heats up. We keep the receipts. We maintain the backup.

But the forgiveness God extends — and the forgiveness He calls us to practice — is a Powerwash. It doesn't pretend the damage never happened. It acknowledges that something went so wrong the only remedy is a complete restoration.

The next time you struggle to release an old grudge, remember: God didn't archive your sin. He Powerwashed it. And He invites you to do the same.
