The Example of Faith - Contemporary Example
In a small village, there lived a potter named Eli. His workshop was filled with clay, some raw and unformed, others shaping into delicate vases or sturdy bowls. Yet, every once in a while, he would find a lump of clay that appeared too hard, too cracked, too stubborn to mold. Most would cast it aside, but Eli saw potential where others saw waste.
He would place that stubborn lump in water, letting it soak overnight. Day by day, he’d knead it with patient hands, infusing it with his skill and love. Slowly but surely, something remarkable happened. The clay transformed—its cracks began to fade, its hardness softened. Before long, it became a beautiful vessel, perfect for carrying water, sharing hope, and offering hospitality.
Just like that clay, we often come to God feeling cracked and broken, weighed down by our past and our struggles. Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” We cannot earn this grace; it is freely given.
Through faith, we are invited into a transformative process, much like that clay in Eli’s hands. God’s grace takes the hard, unyielding parts of our lives and molds us into something new, something beautiful. As we lean into that grace, we discover our purpose and begin to carry His love into a world desperately in need. Like Eli, God sees not just what we are, but what we can become—the perfect vessel for His glory, transformed by faith.
