The Example of Faith - Story

A few years ago, I met a woman named Margaret at a small retreat for church leaders. Margaret was in her late sixties and had faced more than her fair share of trials. She had lost her husband to illness, seen her children face their own struggles, and battled cancer herself. Yet, what struck me most was her unwavering spirit.

During one session, Margaret shared a story about a time she felt utterly alone, sitting in her hospital room, waiting for yet another round of treatment. As the machines beeped softly around her, she felt the weight of despair creeping in. It was in that moment of vulnerability that she recalled the words of Paul to Timothy: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).

Margaret decided to take a small step of faith. She reached for a blank notebook beside her bed and began to write. She penned down her fears but then shifted to recount the moments of grace she had experienced — the loving smiles from nurses, the support of friends, the quiet strength she found in prayer. What began as a list of trials became a tapestry of hope.

Through that simple act of writing, Margaret discovered a newfound strength. Her fear transformed into a testimony of faith, reminding her that even in the shadows, God’s love was a guiding light.
