There’s a story I hold close to my heart about a woman named Grace. She was a beloved member of our parish, known for her gentle spirit and profound faith. In her later years, Grace faced an unexpected challenge: a serious illness that left her in a hospital bed for months. Many wondered how someone so vibrant could endure such darkness.

One day, I visited her, and what struck me most wasn’t her physical frailty, but her unwavering faith. As she lay there, I noticed a small window beside her bed. Even though it was a dreary day, she had made it a point to decorate that window with colorful drawings and encouraging scriptures, including Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.”

I asked her how she could remain so hopeful. With a soft smile, she replied, “Pastor, every morning, I wake up and pray for strength and light. God has not brought me this far to leave me in darkness. My faith is not about my ability; it's about His grace.”

In that moment, I realized that Grace was teaching us about perseverance and spiritual growth, even in the most trying circumstances. She was a beacon of hope, reminding us that faithfulness isn’t just about the mountaintops; it’s also about holding on to God’s light in the valleys. Her example encourages us all to trust in His guidance, knowing that His grace sustains us through every shadow we face.
