The Example of Goodness - Contemporary Example
Elena has been a member of our church for many years, known for her quiet strength and unwavering faith. Recently, she faced a trial that would test both her spirit and her commitment to God’s goodness. Her husband, David, suffered a debilitating stroke, leaving him unable to speak or move. Their life, which once overflowed with joy, now felt like a shadow of its former self.
Despite the overwhelming challenges, Elena’s response was nothing short of remarkable. She did not retreat in despair; instead, she leaned into her faith. Every day, she read Scripture aloud to David, believing that the Word of God would reach him deep within his still mind. She would hold his hand and whisper to him, “Love is patient, love is kind; it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud” (1 Corinthians 13:4).
Her obedience to love and support David in this vulnerable state became a beacon of hope not only for her but for everyone who witnessed her journey. Children in our church began to draw pictures for David, and the community rallied around them, bringing meals and encouragement.
Elena’s faith in action became a living testament to the goodness of God. Through her obedience, she received the blessing of a deeper relationship with her husband, even in silence. This is the essence of spiritual growth: trusting in God’s goodness, even when our circumstances are heavy. When we embody love, patience, and faithfulness, we become instruments of His grace, reminding us all of the profound power of obedience.
