The Example of Goodness - Contemporary Example
A few months ago, I met a young woman named Maria at our community center. She was a single mother, struggling to make ends meet and wrestling with feelings of despair. One evening, as we sat together at a kitchen table cluttered with crayons and coloring books, she shared her story. Maria had faced loss—her own mother had passed away the previous year—and in her heart, there was a deep wound that felt inescapable.
But then something beautiful began to unfold in her life. It started with a small act of kindness from a neighbor who offered to babysit her daughter, allowing Maria to take a much-needed break. In that moment, she experienced hesed, that steadfast love and mercy we see in God’s character. As she received this grace, Maria felt a flicker of hope ignite within her. She began to extend her own hands in service—volunteering at the center, sharing meals, and offering her heart to others who were hurting.
It’s astonishing how our faith can transform us. For God so loved the world! (John 3:16) His love extends to us, not just to redeem us but to inspire us toward goodness. Maria’s journey became one of redemption, where her pain transformed into purpose within a community. She learned that when we embrace grace, we are not only forgiven but also called to be agents of healing for others—bringing joy and awe into the lives of those around us. It's a reminder that through our shared struggles, we can ignite a ripple of goodness that reflects the heart of God.
