The Example of Goodness - Story
In a small, sunlit village, there lived a man named Anton. He had once been a talented craftsman, known for his beautiful wooden carvings. Yet, over the years, misfortune and despair had warped his spirit. He lost everything—his family, his livelihood, and most painfully, his faith. Anton retreated into isolation, convinced he had nothing left to offer the world.
One day, a young girl named Mira, unaware of Anton's troubled past, stumbled upon his workshop. She was drawn in by the dust motes dancing in the sunbeams, revealing the enchanted wood waiting to be awakened. She noticed the half-finished carvings, each one a silent cry for redemption. With innocent curiosity, she asked, “Why don’t you finish these? They’re beautiful!”
Anton, startled, replied, “What’s the use? Nothing I create will ever be good enough.” But Mira’s eyes sparkled with hope. “But look! They hold potential. Just like you.” Her words cut through Anton's darkness, reminding him of the agape—the unconditional love that he thought he had lost.
Inspired by this child’s simple faith, Anton picked up his tools. Day by day, he transformed the remaining wood into something beautiful. With each carving, he felt a piece of his heart mend. Eventually, he opened his workshop for the village children, teaching them the craft that once brought him joy. In giving of himself, he found purpose and community.
