The Example of Joy - Quote
There’s a small community garden in the heart of our city, tended by a group of retired folks who gather every Thursday. Each week, they arrive with their worn gardening gloves, a few tools, and a deep well of stories. One Thursday, I witnessed something special. The sun peeked through the clouds after a long season of rain, and the garden burst with color—bright tomatoes, vibrant sunflowers, and fragrant herbs.
Martha, one of the gardeners, was struggling to lift her head as she worked. “I’ve been feeling so weary,” she shared, wiping her brow. The others nodded knowingly, echoing their own challenges with health and family. Yet, as they planted and nurtured the garden together, a miracle unfolded. With each shared laugh, the burdens began to lift. A spirit of joy filled the air, transforming their weariness into laughter.
In that moment, I was reminded of Isaiah 40:31, which speaks of those who wait on the Lord renewing their strength. Like those gardeners, we often face seasons of despair and fatigue. Yet, it’s through community, shared purpose, and faith that we discover renewal. Just as they cultivated their garden, we too can cultivate joy, even in the shadow of life’s challenges.
Their joyful labor became a testament to the truth that joy is not merely a feeling but an active choice, a daily planting of hope in the soil of our lives. And when we nurture joy together, we rise like eagles, soaring above our struggles, renewed and full of purpose.
