The Example of Justice - Contemporary Example
A few weeks ago, I met a woman named Maria at a local community center. Maria’s life had been a rollercoaster of hardship and despair. Years of abuse and betrayal had left her feeling like a castaway in her own neighborhood, the dreams she once had feeling more like distant stars than reachable goals. She told me about a moment that changed everything. One rainy evening, she sat on a park bench, the weight of her past pressing down on her.
As she gazed at the puddles forming in the asphalt, she noticed a young boy, no more than seven, playing nearby. He would leap from one dry spot to another, giggling with delight each time he made it safely across. Suddenly, he slipped and fell—his laughter replaced by tears. But then, a woman rushed over, her arms wide open, providing immediate comfort and reassurance. Maria watched as the boy transformed from sadness to peace, enveloped in a love that offered safety.
In that moment, Maria felt a flicker of hope ignite within her. She realized that just as the woman had rushed to the boy, God was rushing to her, offering the ultimate support—His love and justice embodied in agape, unconditional love. The tears began to flow, but this time they were tears of release, allowing her to trust in the transformative power of God’s promise: “For God so loved the world…” (John 3:16).
Maria’s journey began not just with healing, but with the understanding that justice isn’t merely punishment; it’s the restoration of dignity and hope. Like that boy, we too can rise, transformed by the foundational love of Christ. God is inviting us to trust that He holds our future and to step boldly toward the purpose He has laid out for each of us.
