The Example of Patience - Story
There’s a small garden behind a humble home in our community, tended by an elderly woman named Ruth. Every spring, she plants a variety of seeds, each one a promise of what’s to come. But if you were to visit her garden right after planting, you might feel disheartened. The soil seems barren and lifeless, mere dirt under the sun. Weeks pass, and still, no green shoots rise from the ground.
Yet Ruth doesn’t despair. With a heart full of hope, she patiently waters the earth, trusting that life is at work beneath the surface. She often recalls Proverbs 3:5-6, inviting us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts, not relying on our own understanding. She knows that transformation takes time and that faith flourishes in the waiting.
Then, one day, a tender sprout breaks through the soil. It’s small, but it’s alive! Ruth smiles, knowing that each little shoot is a testament to her faith and patience. As the weeks unfold, those tiny sprouts grow into a vibrant array of colors, a beautiful transformation that brings joy to all who pass by.
Ruth’s garden teaches us that our spiritual growth often mirrors that same process. At times, we may feel buried under doubts, like Thomas, questioning what is real. But in those moments, we are called to trust — to water our faith with hope and patience. Just as Ruth waits for her garden to bloom, we too can lean into God’s promise that our transformation is already underway, even when we can’t see it yet.
