The Example of Peace - Contemporary Example
A few years ago, I met a woman named Sarah at our church. She was a quiet presence, often sitting in the back row, but there was a strength about her that drew me in. One day, she shared her story with me, and it resonated deeply with the themes of faith and peace that we find in the book of Ruth.
You see, Sarah was a single mother facing the daunting task of raising her two children alone after her husband walked out on them. It felt to her like a dark time, much like Naomi’s loss in Ruth. But instead of despair, Sarah turned to God, much like Ruth did when she clung to Naomi, saying, “Where you go, I will go; where you stay, I will stay.” Sarah found her peace not in her circumstances but in trusting the Lord.
One evening, as she prayed, she felt a strong sense of guidance. Her heart led her to volunteer at a local food bank, which, at first, seemed like a sacrifice of time and energy. Yet, as she poured herself into serving others, something remarkable happened. The very act of selflessness filled her with a hope she thought lost. She began to see the hand of God guiding her, just as Proverbs 3:5-6 promises: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Through her faithfulness, Sarah not only found comfort for her own heart but became a beacon of peace for others navigating their own storms. In her journey, we see the beautiful truth that when we lean into God, just as Ruth leaned into Naomi, peace and purpose can emerge in the most unexpected ways.
