There’s a story I once heard about a man named David, who lived in a small town. David had a reputation for being gruff and unyielding, a distant figure even among friends. His heart had grown hard after a betrayal—one that had shattered his trust and left him empty. He wore his pain like armor, and it showed.

One day, David’s neighbor, a gentle woman named Mary, baked a fresh batch of her famous chocolate chip cookies. She decided to deliver them to David, hoping to break through his walls. She knocked on his door, and when he opened it, the surprise was evident on his face.

“Why are you here?” he asked sourly.

“I brought you some cookies,” Mary replied with a warm smile. “Just thought you might enjoy them.”
