The Example of Peace - Story
In a small town, not far from where I grew up, lived a woman named Ruth. She was well into her seventies, widowed, and known for her gentle spirit. Despite the storms of life that had battered her—loss, loneliness, and the challenges of aging—Ruth radiated a profound peace that puzzled many. People were drawn to her, seeking her wisdom and comfort during their own trials.
One day, as I sat at her kitchen table, the smell of freshly baked bread filling the air, I asked her how she maintained such unwavering faith amid life’s uncertainties. With her soft eyes twinkling, she shared a story from her own life. Years ago, when she had faced the daunting prospect of raising her three young children alone after her husband’s passing, she had clung to Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”
Ruth spoke of how she would wake each morning, not knowing how she would provide or where her strength would come from. Yet, she would sit quietly with her Bible, surrendering her fears, trusting that God would guide her steps. Each day, she witnessed small miracles—neighbors dropping by with meals, her children finding joy in the simplest of things, and an unexplainable comfort that enveloped their home.
Even now, as I share this with you, I can still see her smile as she said, “Faith is the anchor in the storm, my friends. When we trust Him, He will make our paths straight.” Ruth’s life was a living testament to the peace that comes from surrender and trust, illuminating the way for others to find the same solace in their journey of faith.
