The Example of Understanding - Story
A few years ago, I visited a small town in the South where the community gathered every Saturday for a local farmer’s market. One particular Saturday, I met a woman named Miss Clara. Now, Miss Clara was known for her vibrant smile and her ability to grow the juiciest tomatoes anyone had ever tasted. As folks bustled around, I watched her carefully tending to her produce, her hands working the soil as if coaxing life from the earth itself.
But one Saturday, I noticed she had fewer tomatoes to sell. Curious, I approached her. With a twinkle in her eye, she explained, “Pastor, this year I decided to let my garden rest. I’ve been waiting, cultivating the soil instead of just the plants. It’s hard work, but I believe this will bring renewal.”
Miss Clara taught me that sometimes waiting is part of the process of growth. She reminded me of Ephesians 2:8-9, where we are reminded that it is by grace we have been saved, not by our own efforts. Just like her garden, our spiritual growth often requires seasons of waiting, nurturing, and understanding.
As we serve in our own lives, we may feel like we’re not producing enough or moving fast enough. Yet, in this waiting, God is preparing us for a harvest beyond what we can imagine. So let us lean into this season of waiting with hope, knowing that God is at work, renewing our spirits and guiding us toward a purpose filled with grace.
