In 1997, ecologist Suzanne Simard at the University of British Columbia made a discovery that changed how we understand forests. She found that trees in a forest are not competing individuals fighting for sunlight and soil. They are connected underground through a vast network of fungi — threadlike filaments called mycorrhizae that link root system to root system across the forest floor. Scientists now call it the "Wood Wide Web."
Through this hidden network, older trees send carbon and nutrients to younger saplings struggling in the shade. When one tree is injured or diseased, neighboring trees increase the flow of resources to help it survive. A mother tree, as Simard calls the largest and oldest specimens, may be connected to hundreds of other trees, quietly sustaining the entire community beneath the surface.
No single tree thrives alone. Cut one off from the network, and it weakens. The forest flourishes not because each tree fights harder than the next, but because they are woven together in mutual dependence.

The body of Christ was never designed for isolated faith.
