The Fracture That Becomes the Strongest Point
In 1892, German surgeon Julius Wolff published a remarkable discovery that orthopedic medicine still relies on today. Known as Wolff's Law, it describes how bone tissue adapts to the stress placed upon it. But what stunned Wolff and his colleagues was what happens at the site of a fracture. When a bone breaks, the body floods that damaged area with specialized cells called osteoblasts, which begin laying down new bone material in a thick formation called a callus. During the remodeling phase, the fracture site often becomes denser and stronger than the surrounding bone that was never broken.
Read that again. The place that shattered becomes the strongest place.
Every one of us carries fractures. A marriage that cracked under the weight of betrayal. A faith that splintered in the hospital waiting room. A heart broken by a child who walked away. And we assume that these broken places will always be our weakest points, the spots where we will break again.
But the Great Physician does not merely repair. He remodels. The Psalmist understood this: "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds" (Psalm 147:3). The Hebrew word for "binds up" carries the sense of wrapping tightly, of reinforcing.
God does not return you to who you were before the break. He rebuilds you into someone stronger at the very point of your deepest wound. Your fracture is not your future. In the hands of Jehovah Rapha, it becomes your foundation.
