The Gift That Set the World Free
In 1989, a British scientist named Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web while working at CERN in Switzerland. He created something that would reshape every corner of human life — communication, commerce, education, medicine, connection across continents. His colleagues urged him to patent it. Investors lined up. By most estimates, had he licensed the technology, he would have become one of the wealthiest people in history.
He gave it away for free.
Berners-Lee insisted the Web must belong to everyone or it would serve no one. He released it without royalties, without restrictions, without a single string attached. And because one man chose to give rather than grip, billions of people gained access to something they could never have built on their own.
That is the gospel pattern. Christ held something infinitely more valuable than any technology — equality with God Himself. Philippians 2 tells us He "did not consider equality with God something to be grasped." He let go. He poured Himself out. And in that breathtaking act of release, He set the whole world free.
Freedom never comes from hoarding. It comes from open hands. The Web works because one man refused to lock it down. Salvation works because the Almighty refused to hold back.
What are you gripping today that God is asking you to release? Sometimes the door to your own freedom swings open only when your hands let go.
